Friday 15 July 2022 at 9:00 p.m., the Association Paroles and the Association for the Collegiate Church offer a moonlit storytelling night, a formula successfully launched last year, which will be held near the green Collegiate Church of Neuchâtel or in the cloister, depending on the weather. The storyteller of Algerian origin Néfissa Benouniche will deploy the imagination of excess that abounds in the Arab-Persian tales that she will delight us, taking with her a tad of laziness, an ounce of greed and a hint of malice.

BEZEF – it is an entirely oriental measure to designate the sense of excess and exaggeration. “It’s abused”, would we hear people say today : par exemple, when luck invites itself so insistently that it becomes suspicious and, frankly, a bad omen ; or when such ardent greed ends up stripping a miser of everything he owns. As for the porter of Isfahan, he will have to show tireless efforts not to perish in the golden prison, full of intrigue and splendor, that the courtiers of a dream Persia will have fashioned with their jealous desires.

Written by Néfissa Benouniche with the help of Mireille Antoine for the game, the show is constantly mixing, coloring the tales of Persian and Sephardic songs, when the characters do not mix with opera arias from “La Belle Hélène” by Offenbach ! With the all-Saharan heat wave knocking at our doors, Néfissa Benouniche will be able to transmit to the Neuchâtel public the vitality of fire, albeit refreshing, of the Maghreb temperament !
