Saturday 18 et dimanche 19 December 2021, the Paroles Association is pleased to invite you to the show Kohlhaas, in collaboration with Le Pommier. Hectic ride at the heart of the cogs of impossible justice, this tale for children who have become adults gives us a scathing and corrosive political theater. The occasion of (re)discover this story of tragic magnitude inspired by the novel Michael Kohlhaas of Heinrich von Kleist.

Soberly staged by Julien Kosellek, of the estrarre theater ensemble, this adaptation from Kleist's novel by Marco Baliani and Remo Rostagno explores what can push a being from suffering to the most radical violence. On the scene, she's the actress Victoria Kozlova which portrays the multitude of characters in this story taken from a real event which marked consciences in the 16th century in Germany.

Michael Kohlhaas, a problem-free horse breeder, is a victim of a noble’s abuse of power. The more he seeks redress, the more he is rejected by representatives of the State, gradually losing everything that made him happy. Abandoned by justice, he no longer finds any way to compensate for the damage other than that of violence. Behind the news, the story of Kohlhaas questions the validity of a law written by and for the strong, in defiance of individuals who cannot read or write, ultimately pushing them to revolt as a last resort.

Drawing on the art of storytelling, the show chooses a stripped-down form that can be addressed to everyone and everywhere, recalling that theater has the political vocation to challenge everyone on the conditions for exercising justice and on the mechanisms of violence which can be triggered at any time when inequity reigns.
