By telling us about these very charming princes, saviors of beauty, we might have thought that they were the only ones to fulfill this heroic function. And we women, feel reduced to being nothing more than the object of their quest.

But this is not at all what the Tale says in its oral versions where the heroines are multiple if we are willing to pay attention to them.. In our Western world, the first tale written in the second century AD, in Apuleius' Golden Ass, evokes not a hero but a heroine: Psyche ! Destrier Hay, saber and sword, she puts the earth under her feet and sets off in search of her husband

disappeared.
