“Besa week of the exhibition to be held in Geneva from 7 to 15 March 2015.
"The exhibition" Besa "of the Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem museum and Jerusalem together through new stories until then unknown two peoples seemingly common. Are appearances deceptive ?
Switzerland, Jews and Albanians are two minorities who speak about them. Xenophobia, integration problems, anti-Semitism: many words that feed constantly debate around these two communities. The exhibition shows how Besa Albanian families of modest saved Jews from death during the occupation of the country during World War II by hiding, giving them to eat and
organizing their escape abroad. European Muslim majority countries, Albania has succeeded where other European countries have failed. En effet, almost all Jewish refugees in Albania were saved. Up to now, Albanian example was barely attracted the interest of researchers tracing the exile of the Jewish population.
Striking photographs taken by American photographer Norman Gersham portraits represent both moving and breathtaking simple people who felt connected to a central precept of the law of Kanun,
called "Besa", word of honor that must be respected!”
